Time Waster: Kill Zombies with The Last Stand

28 08 2007

Can you last 20 nights in this epic zombie shoot-em-up? At night. take on wave after wave of brain-sucking undeads with whatever weapon you have. Then manage your time during the day to repair your fort, look for survivors, and search for new weapons. This game is pretty hard, and will definitely take more than one play to beat. It is very extensive, and the time management really goes to complete the Zombie-killing experience, as well as the journal entries you will find by clicking on the desk when prompted to choose a weapon. Very well rounded.

A small quip I have about it is that if your hardware isn’t up to it, the game is really easy since flash plays slower. This is more flash’s fault versus the game’s, but it’s still a little annoying. All in all though, a great game.

Time waster: Wreak some havoc with WpnFire

12 08 2007

WpnFire is an already popular side-scrolling shoot ’em up where you control a stick figure, wielding tons of weapons, against a seemingly infinite army of zombies, knights, and soldiers. There are several different modes: an adventure mode where you kill the bad guys and bosses to complete levels, a survival mode, where you are stuck on a strip of land and have to last as long as possible with wave after wave of enemies, and other variations on the survival mode with enemies growing in size and strength.

The game is rock solid and looks fantastic-if your cpu can handle it. The game sucks up a ton of system resources and if you don’t meet the requirements you may end up having to play it on low settings. The guns are really, really detailed and extremely well done for flash. The thing I like about this game is the storyline, or rather, lack thereof. It is refreshing to see a shooting game that doesn’t try to make up a horrible plot excuse to have violence, but rather, has violence because its fun to blow stuff up, no other reason. Mindless violence for the sake of mindless violence, it’s wonderful.

Here are some of the cheats you get for beating adventure mode, they scroll by pretty fast, so I think there’s one or two I missed. but these should do. If you have more, post them in the comments.

Time waster: Play UT/Quake 3 in your browser with Phosphor

9 08 2007

Well, it’s not really UT or Quake 3, its called Phosphor, and it is an attempt to get MMOFPS games like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament into the browser so anyone can play. There are minimum video requirements, but I’ve played it with a 1.4 Ghz Pentium 4 with integrated graphics and it ran ok. The bummer is that it uses shockwave, so linux users can’t join in the party, but apart from that, it is defenitely the most advanced game for the browser today. The graphics are really good, the AI is hard, the weapons are well done, it’s fantastic. All in all I’d say that if this thing ever comes out of beta it will really be able to compete with some good desktop games.

It’s a blast to play, get some friends and start fragging!

Whether or not this is actually Wireman 2 is debatable, but it sure looks like it. it’s basically the same thing just a little more difficult and nicer looking, give it a try.

Game day is coming

21 07 2007

ok, the 27th of every month will officially be game day here at Back Door Life. Why the 27th? because Atari was formed on June 27th, 1972. Didn’t know that? Read up on your history. someone needs to remind me of this.
