Foxmarks revamps its online acess

30 07 2007

The Bookmarks syncing extension Foxmarks has recently redone its online access site my. It’s full of great features like previews and two view modes that I think really beats the pants off of Google bookmarks.

“You can add, delete, and modify bookmarks, folders and separators. You can use drag-n-drop to move things around. You can search your bookmarks in a way that we (in all humility) suggest is better than anything else out there. And there’s a “grid” view that allows you to see all of your bookmarks in a flat list, sorted in any way you choose.”

To use it, just go to and sign in with your account.

Intelways comprehensive web-based toolbar

28 07 2007 gives you a search bar that stays at the top of the page, that will easily let you search hundreds of websites using a huge number of search engines. You can even search places like StumbleUpon or Digg right alongside Google. The search services are organized into different categories that make it even easier to browse for something new or find something. The site explains:

“Intelways is a web search aggregator, a place for people to find almost anything on the internet in different formats, topics and media types, by retrieving results from multiple search engines and online information providers. From the biggest search engines to the most deep web databases, Intelways allows our users to easily find what they’re looking for.”

the site is insanely comprehensive, and I use it as my homepage, the only quip I have is that you don’t actually navigate away from the website, like a proxy, but if you want to bookmark the page or something, just open it in a new window. I suspect future versions to have a “open in new tab” option.

Learn to install software in ubuntu

23 07 2007

Switching from Windows to Ubuntu? one of the biggest difficulties is figuring out just how to install things, especially if they are not in adept package manager. You could check out GetDeb for some .exe-like .deb files, or you could learn how to install programs with cutler softwares’ guide. The site explains:

“installing software, themes and other things on Ubuntu is actually very easy! This guide will help you understand with screenshots, instructional videos and to-the-point language.”

The guide is very in depth and, while it is written for Ubuntu 6.06, is still really useful for anyone new to the OS.

Game day is coming

21 07 2007

ok, the 27th of every month will officially be game day here at Back Door Life. Why the 27th? because Atari was formed on June 27th, 1972. Didn’t know that? Read up on your history. someone needs to remind me of this.

Saturday time waster: Wireman

21 07 2007

Wireman is a flash game much like the insanely popular helicopter game, except you control a little man who has wires that shoot out of his hands. It reminds me of web slinging. Its pretty fun, and it certainly won’t let you down when it comes to wasting time.
