Well, obviously this site’s been dead for a while now.  I’ve moved on to other things, but you can still catch me in the blogosphere.

I’m working on a couple of new things right now. In fact you’ll find many of the same things you loved (lulz, wikis, software, games) at my new blog, The Tartar Sauce. It covers some other things, and there’s more writers and longer posts, but a lot of the same flavor is still there.

I also have Brain Grains, where I post my inner thoughts and snippets.

This was my first blog, and it was really a good learning experience for me. Thanks to everyone who read, and I encourage you to head over to The Tartar Sauce and see what all the buzz is about. There’s a very slight chance that someday I may pick this up again, but anyway, a really big thanks for the support from all you great readers out there.  I hope to see you at The Tartar Sauce.

I got this really weird message on digg.com after bringing up an article on linux. I swear to god this is not photoshopped.

A great post at Yahoo Answers covered replacing an old laptop hard drive with a new one and making the old one into a portable drive. It is a pretty simple process and so are the steps, though I would recommend going for a free alternative instead of Norton Ghost, such as Ghost for Unix (which is for windows too). The instructions are a bit vague but you could get through it pretty well with a bit of extra reading.

I’ve always found the ability to pick a lock has always come in handy, there’s always that time you come across when you get locked outside for some reason, and being able to get in is a great thing. WikiHow has a great tutorial on picking a lock that should give you some general pointers and tips on how to get a lock open. Simple lock picking sets are fairly cheap and doing this yourself could save you a lot of money instead of paying a locksmith to come when you lose the key to your backyard shed. IBM Just released a beta of its free office suite Lotus Symphony. The once forgotten, now resurrected suite seems to be coming along quite nicely, and has a few interesting and nice features.

I haven’t played around with it enough to make a judgment call on how well it stacks up against OpenOffice, or MS Office, but it is very aesthetically pleasing, and default ODF (Open Document Format) support is a plus. Unfortunately for now, it is Windows and Linux only, Mac users will probably have to wait until the official release.

Firefox 3 is shaping up to be a real mean browsing machine. The team has added a whole slew of amazing new features. While Firefox 2 was more of a big update, Firefox 3 (or codename Gran Paradiso) is shaping up to be a real makeover. It is really great to try out all the new features and play around, plus then you’ll be ready when the first stable release comes around in October. The easiest way to download it is through download site Softpedia. And don’t forget to report bugs!

BitTyrant is a modification for Azureus that, unlike other clients, selects only the peers to connect with that will return the greatest download/upload rate, this has made downloads up to 70% faster than with a regular client.

There is, however, a lot of controversy with this client. Many people believe that it will hurt overall download speed and bittorrent as a whole by only connecting to selected peers, which would leave others in the dust. Though I’d say there’s no harm done as long as you do a bit more seeding than usual. That said, it’s probably best you only use it for painfully slow torrents. Read through the links, FAQ, and papers they provide to decide whether it’s right for you.
